2 Injured in Brooklyn After Car Crashes into War Monument at Prospect Park West

March 06, 2022 – BROOKLYN, NY: Just before 4:20 a.m., a vehicle struck the war monument at Bartel-Pritchard Square causing 2 injuries and a car to catch fire. Police responded to 911 calls of a person trapped after a vehicle crash occurred at 15th street and Prospect Park West in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

According to police, upon arrival at Bartel-Pritchard Square located at the southwest entrance to Prospect Park, Officers confirm that a man & woman were injured and requested an ambulance. Police also advised that no one was trapped and a injured male attempted to flee the scene on foot.

Police advise the car did catch fire upon impact with the war monument and emergency crews were requested to extinguish the fire reported at 15th Street & Prospect Park West. The vehicle with Texas license plates collided with the polished black granite monument with inscription on it that reads, “For Valor and Sacrifice” dedicated to soldiers who died in WWI.

Its not clear if arrests were made at this time. The investigation into this vehicle collision is ongoing.
