March 04, 2022 – MANHATTAN, NY: A fatal vehicle crash occurred on the northbound FDR Drive at 74th Street early Friday morning. Two people were fatal at the scene and the 34-year-old male driver of the vehicle was pulled from the wreckage with severe injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
According to police, a vehicle with 3 occupants struck another vehicle and collided with the dividing wall on the northbound side of the FDR, causing the vehicle to erupt into flames and instantly killing both passengers, police said.
The FDR Drive was shutdown at E74th Street for an investigation and traffic could be seen backed up past the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. No other injuries were reported during this incident and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
