Shootout Between Robbery Suspect and Long Island Police Leaves One Officer Injured, Suspect in Custody

March 01, 2022 UNIONDALE, NY: Officers from the Nassau County Police Department and an alleged robbery suspect exchanged gunfire early Tuesday morning after police pulled over a suspect’s vehicle in Uniondale, New York leaving one injured officer, and the suspect in custody.

According to police officials, officers were attempting to pull over a Black Dodge Charger that matched the description of a vehicle suspected to be used in the progress a robbery when the driver of the charger allegedly opened fire and officers returned fire.

The robbery suspect would attempt to flee but subsequently crashed near the intersection of Nassau Road and Arthur Street. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to bring the suspect into custody with charges pending, police said.

The suspects vehicle was left covered in bullet holes, Nassau County officials said no one was struck during a shootout involving police. The suspect in custody is a 20-year-old alleged gang member who was wanted in connection for a shooting that occurred almost two-months ago in Hempstead.

A police officer received minor injuries during the incident and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation.
