2 Dead After Vehicle Loses Control on Henry Hudson Parkway and Falls to the Amtrak Train Tracks

February 27, 2022 Manhattan, NY: A fatal accident occurred just before 3:00 a.m. at West 178 street and Henry Hudson Parkway under the George Washington Bridge. Police units responded to an accident where a BMW careened off the roadway landing onto Amtrak train tracks, causing the vehicle to explode and killing two people, police said.

According to police officials, the second victim, a 39-year-old male passenger was ejected from the BMW and reportedly located by rescue crews was pronounced dead at the scene. Both fatalities reported were occupants in the same motor vehicle that plunged to the Amtrak train tracks.

NYPD Highway CIS was called in to aid in the fatal accident investigation. Aviation was also requested as a light source for officers searching a nearby wooded area for additional victims. Officials said major delays are to be expected due to the accident investigation.

Detectives are working to determine the official cause of the accident. This investigation is ongoing.
