February 27, 2022 – Bronx, NY: A barricaded 35-year-old male was involved in a dispute and allegedly held three people hostage before officers were called for assistance. Upon arrival, police could hear the sound of gunfire coming from inside of the apartment, cops said.
According to police, the incident at 455 E 137th started with a dispute and escalated as NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit entered the apartment building in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. Officers were met with gunfire upon entering and at least one bullet struck an officer’s ballistic shield.






A hostage negotiation team was requested to assist with communicating with the suspect. After more than 9 hours of speaking with the barricaded subject, the unidentified individual would subsequently shoot himself in the head, police said.






The suspect was rushed by EMS to Lincoln Medical Center and listed in critical condition by hospital staff. It’s unknown if the three people reported to have been held hostage were injured during the incident or not.
No member of service was reported injured. This investigation is still ongoing.
