“Ukraine Will Always Exist” – Over a Thousand Ukrainian Supporters March in New York City

February 24, 2022 – Manhattan, NY: Over a thousand Ukrainian supporters took to the streets and marched in New York City Thursday afternoon to condemn Putin’s war on Ukraine.

The group started in Times Square then marched to the U.N. and on to the Russian Consulate. Once outside of the U.N., protesters waved flags and had speak outs from Ukrainian community members. Outside of the Russian consulate on the Upper East Side of Manhattan at East 91st Street, protesters were met with a heavy police presence.

We spoke with Samuel, an air traffic controller from Seattle who was marching along with thousands today for his Ukrainian father.

“Ukraine will always exist, Putin will never take that away from us, never ever. I’ll always tell my kids about this day.” -Samuel

“My dad’s Ukrainian. Just to show everyone, we’re all standing with Ukraine. We’re standing with our people. In the face of tyrant that’s not been seen since Hitler. Just to show hope, you know? And no matter what happens with this attack right now, Ukraine will always exist. In some way shape or fashion. Look around, there’s Ukrainian flags everywhere you see and we’re in New York City. Thousands of miles away from Ukraine. Ukraine will always exist, Putin will never take that away from us, never ever. I’ll always tell my kids about this day.”

NYPD set up barricades to monitor the scene. Police held an additional group of protesters that marched from the UN from advancing to the Russian Consulate.
