1 Dead, After Alleged Intoxicated Driver Collides With Semi-trailer in Brooklyn

A woman riding as a passenger was killed early Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a parked semi-trailer in Brooklyn. According to police, at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the driver of the wrecked vehicle, a 33-year-old male lost control and crashed near Branton Street and Ditmas Avenue.

Upon arrival emergency crews confirmed that a person was trapped and reported the victim to have sustained life-threatening injuries. At least one person was extricated from the vehicle. A 29-year-old female passenger suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision and was rushed by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The 33-year-old driver was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and was subsequently taken into police custody under suspicion of drunk driving.

The crash incident is still under investigation.
