Off-Duty NYPD Officer Shot in Queens, 2 Suspects Arrested

February 01, 2022 – Queens, NY: At approximately 10:18 p.m. officers from the 100th precinct responded to shots fired. Upon arrival at Beach 62nd Street and Beach Channel Drive, uniformed police confirmed that an off-duty 22-year-old NYPD officer sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder during an attempted robbery.

According to police officials, the 22-year-old police off-duty officer was on his way to work when approached by 2 individuals that intended to rob the off-duty officer. Officials confirmed, a firearm possibly used in the shooting incident was recovered at the location.

Police shut down the Van Wyck Expressway to aid in rushing the Off-Duty Officer to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Two suspects fled the area after but were apprehended a short time later. The suspects were then taken into police custody after shooting at an unmarked police vehicle.

The off-duty 22-year-old officer sustained a non-life threatening injury and is in stable condition at this time, police said. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
