January 27, 2022 – Manhattan, NY: Street Vendors and supporters march to Times Square for Vendor Justice and equity. Demonstrators are calling on legislators to pass Bill S1175/A5081.
Vendors, activists, and supporters could be heard chanting “Permits Not Tickets! As they marched away from their rally point at Herald Square in Manhattan.

We spoke with Mohamed Attia, Executive Director at Street Vendor Project.
“Today is very important because Street Vendors after passing the city council bill last year, we are still facing the same criminalization.

We are still being ticketed, being targeted by different enforcement agencies. Receiving high fines, having their merchandise and supply be confiscated.
Today they are demanding the state bill to lift the caps and decriminalize their work.”, Attia said.
Excessive fines, targeted policing, and blocked from legalizing their businesses. New York city Vendors are demanding justice and calling on lawmakers like New York State Senator Jessica Ramos & Assemblymember Jessica Gonzáles-Rojas to continue the fight for Street Vendors & pass Bill S1175/A5081.
