Vigil in Harlem for Yao Pan Ma

Many attended a vigil for Yao Pan Ma on 125th & 3rd Avenue where he was violently attacked last April while collecting cans in East Harlem.

The 62-year-old was in a coma for 8 months and died on December 31, 2021 due to his injuries.

Jarrod Powell, 50, was quickly arrested the following week for allegedly hitting Yao in the back and knocking him to the ground. The violent attack continued, Mr. Ma was then kicked multiple times in the head, police said

Powell was charged with a hate crime, assault, and attempted murder.
