MAJOR EMERGENCY: 1 dead, at least 8 injured in Bronx Building EXPLOSION

January 18, 2022 – Bronx, NY: Eight people were injured, including five NYPD officers with 1 confirmed death in a fire explosion and structure collapse near the intersection of Fox Street & Intervale Avenue, in the Longwood section of the Bronx, just after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival, police from the 41st precinct discovered three injured victims a 77-year-old female with life threatening injuries sustained during the incident. An 82-year-old and 68-year-old females were all three were rushed to Jacobi Hospital, said police.

According to police radio transmissions, NYPD confirmed the Bronx structure collapsed and surrounding streets were closed off. Specialized police and firefighter units also responded to the location of the fire.

Fire crews reported seeing heavy smoke visible from the highway. When Firefighters arrived on sene, heavy fire was visible on all floors of the three story building, said FNDY officials.

The 77-year-old female was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital. Five 41st precinct police officers were all treated for smoke inhalation at area hospitals.

According to officials, firefighters confirmed they found evidence of a major explosion, the official cause of the explosion has yet to be determined. Officials suggest a possible gas explosion.
