Midtown Mayhem; NYPD Officers Search for Alleged Car Jacking Suspects

January 12, 2022, Manhattan, NY: Two separate violent auto-thefts occurred Wednesday afternoon, causing mayhem in Midtown Manhattan and leaving one officer injured, police said.

According to police, the first vehicle-theft occurred on West 55th Street and Broadway just before 5p.m. when a male suspect stole a black Audi SUV.

The alleged car jacking suspect threatened a motorist with a taser before making off in the victim’s Audi that was abandoned near Columbus Circle. The suspect then fled into a nearby subway station, said police.

According to NYPD officials, almost an hour later, an additional vehicle was stolen on West 36th Street near Seventh Avenue by a male suspect armed with a box cutter.

Officers responded just after 5p.m. to a report of a stolen vehicle near West 36th Street and located a victim who told police his SUV was stolen by a man with a knife, while he was parked and sitting in his vehicle, said police.

A NYPD spokesperson confirmed the alleged car jacking suspect did displayed a box cutter knife before driving off in the stolen SUV.

Police are searching for both suspects from separate auto-theft incidents in midtown. As of Thursday morning the two remain at large and the investigation into both thefts is ongoing.
