“Roads are a sheet of ice” – Road conditions causing accidents, car pile ups, 1 dead in Westchester

January 5th, 2022 – New York and NJ: Icy road conditions throughout the tri-state area Wednesday led to multiple vehicle collisions and road closures across New York and New Jersey.

According to police officials, weather related conditions resulted in the fatality of at least person in Westchester County. Police did confirm one person was killed Wednesday morning on the connecting ramp to the Cross County Parkway.

Officials say the ramp will remain closed for the duration of the investigation.

New Jersey DOT Warning to Motorists this morning

The icy conditions caused by the freezing rain also prompted a ground stop at Newark Airport, along with several flight delays at LaGuardia Airport.

In New Rochelle, NY police officers responded to multiple calls of a person struck by a vehicle just after 4:00 a.m., near 227 Main Street.

First responding officers found the injured pedestrian lying in the roadway with severe head trauma, said police

According to police officials, the injured pedestrian was rushed by EMS to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Later in the morning, NYPD officers from the 111th pct where involved in a vehicle accident with a Tesla.

The traffic incident with no injuries was reported at Springfield blvd and 58th avenue in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens.
