Man Dies After Being Hit by Ambulance in the Bronx

January 02, 2022 Bronx, New York – A man has died after he was fatally hit by an FDNY ambulance early Sunday Morning in the Norwood section of the Bronx just after 1:20 a.m., police said.

According to officials, the pedestrian was struck by an FDNY ambulance driver at the intersection East Gun Hill Road and Dekalb avenue.

When police from the 52nd precinct arrived at the scene, officers discovered an injured and unresponsive 56-year-old male lying in the road.

EMS rushed the 56-year-old male to North Central Bronx Hospital where the individual did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

According to police, a preliminary investigation by the NYPD determined the emergency vehicle was traveling northbound on DeKalb Avenue when the ambulance driver struck the 56-year-old male as he was attempting to cross Gun Hill Road.

The ambulance involved in the incident remained at the scene and police said no criminality is suspected at this time.

The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) was requested and the investigation remains ongoing.
