Cop Shot Outside of NYC Precinct on New Year’s Day

An off-duty NYPD police officer is recovering after he was shot just outside the 25th Precinct while asleep in his car. The officer was reportedly sleeping in his personal vehicle between shifts, when an individual allegedly shot at the vehicle early New Year’s Day morning in Harlem.

According to NYPD officials, the off-duty police officer was grazed in the head after gunfire struck his car while he was resting in his personal vehicle at 120 E119th street, near the precinct’s parking lot, injuring the officer sleeping inside.

The off-duty officer decided to rest in his personal vehicle at NYPD’s 25th Precinct in Harlem after an 8 hour shift working a NYE event and before starting his next shift at 7 a.m., said police.

The off-duty officer was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition, said police. Detectives are searching for a suspect as the investigation is ongoing.
