Cunard announced they will be ending Queen Mary 2’s luxury Caribbean cruise ahead of schedule due to rising covid cases on the ship.
The ocean liner that left out of Red Hook, Brooklyn was scheduled to return on January 03, 2022 has now been redirected to remain in Barbados until January 02.
According to a letter from Andrew Hall, Captain of the Queen Mary 2, the reason for the sudden cruise cancellation is due to reports of rising Covid cases onboard the vessel and the need for essential staff to ensure a safe cruise.
“Having spoken to the relevant authorities and to our head offices in Miami and in Southampton about our long onward itinerary we have concluded, that as a precautionary measure, we will need to take on additional manning in essential roles onboard before we continue our voyage back to the UK.
Given the current international travel situation, this will take a few days so we will remain here in Barbados until the new crew members join.
At the moment our plan is to stay in Barbados until the evening of 2 January, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Therefore, this extended stay in Barbados means that unfortunately, we will no longer be calling in New York on 3 January if we are to maintain our arrival back in Southampton on 10 January.
As per my broadcast, our focus now is making sure that for these guests due to disembark on 3 January in New York, the onward journey home is as smooth and easy as possible, and we will assist in making these arrangements.
