MANHATTAN: Two People Struck and Killed by Box Truck on Christmas Eve

December 24 2021 Manhattan, New York – Two people struck by a vehicle on the Upper East Side of Manhattan have been pronounced dead after a horrific incident involving an alleged speeding box truck.

Emergency crews responded to the location of the crash at E61 Street and 3rd Avenue where police observed two critically injured males lying in the roadway.

According to reports on the Upper East Site News website, witness told them that a box truck going westbound on 61st Street jumped up on the curb, crashing into the cyclist and a pedestrian.

Witnesses shared video on Citizen, describing the scene when a box truck allegedly went speeding through a red light and struck a cyclist and pedestrian.

This year alone has the been one of the deadliest for cyclists in New York City. By the end of summer 2021, at least 10 cyclists were killed in fatal crashes involving a motor vehicle.

According to nypost, a witness said the driver cited possible break failure as the cause of the wreck and remained at the scene.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
