December 21 2021 Queens, New York – One person was left with life-threatening injuries and later died, following an incident with an MTA bus in Elmhurst part of Queens.
Incident reported around 7:20 p.m., on Roosevelt Avenue near the intersection of Broadway, where an MTA bus is carded off by police tape and alleged victim’s items in front of it.
NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad say that a 2006 MTA Bus, operated by a 54-year-old male, was traveling westbound along Broadway, on a green traffic signal in its favor. At the pedestrian intersection located near Roosevelt Avenue,as the bus entered the crosswalk, the pedestrian began to cross Broadway in the east crosswalk, walking against pedestrian signal, police said.
Bus hit the pedestrian with the front bumper, knocking the pedestrian to the pavement. The MTA bus remained on scene and the bus driver was not injured. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police say that pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
