The 59-year-old has pleaded not guilty. If convicted on all six federal counts, Maxwell faces up to 70 years in prison.

Maxwell also refused to take the stand in her own defence last week, telling the judge: “Your honour, the government has not proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, and so there’s no reason for me to testify.”

The charges include sex trafficking of a minor, enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and three counts related to conspiring.
