Police Shoot and Kill a Man Armed with Knife in Brooklyn

December 20, 2021 – Early Monday morning around 4:20 a.m., a 911 caller alerted police to the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn where a man was allegedly observed to be armed with a knife.

According to NYPD officials, officers first to arrive at the location near 1090 Eastern Parkway confronted a man at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue who appeared to be armed with a weapon.

Two officers deployed their tasers following a brief foot pursuit into a nearby subway station, however the armed suspect was not effected by the use of force. Officers theorized during the press conference that maybe the suspects winter jacket was to blame for the tasers ineffectiveness.

The brief pursuit into the station spilled back onto the street and after several commands directed at the suspect from officers to drop his weapon, the armed individual allegedly charged at police, said NYPD officials.

The armed suspect was struck in the midsection by police gunfire after at least 10 shots rang out from two different NYPD officers. The unidentified male was transported by EMS to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A knife was recovered at the scene but a firearm was never found on or around the suspect.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
