19-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder After Off-Duty NYPD Lieutenant Shot In Queens

Following the shooting of an off duty officer, Christopher Cruz, was charged with Attempted 2nd degree murder, assault, robbery, grand larceny, and criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property.

The charges come after the 19 year-old male from the Bronx allegedly engaged in shoot out with an off-duty NYPD Lieutenant, during an attempted robbery early Thursday morning in Queens, said police.

According to NYPD officials, an off-duty NYPD lieutenant was shot around 3 a.m. outside of a Queens nightclub during a suspected robbery early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred when the off-duty 44-year-old Lieutenant was approached by a group of masked individuals after leaving a rap concert at La Boom nightclub as reported by CBS New York.

The off duty officer did return fire striking at least one suspect in the stomach and chest. The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said police officials.

The 44-year-old lieutenant did sustain multiple gunshots wounds to the torso and head. The injured off-duty office was rushed by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital where he has remained in critical but stable condition, according to police statements.

Police officials said a firearm with an extended clip that holds about 30 rounds of ammunition was also recovered at the scene.

Detectives are still searching for any other possible suspects that may be involved in the deadly robbery.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
