Off Duty NYPD Lieutenant Critically Wounded, One Suspect Dead Following Attempted Robbery

December 16, 2021 – An off-duty NYPD lieutenant was shot outside a nightclub during a suspected robbery early Thursday morning in Queens.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m., when an off-duty officer was leaving a rap concert at La Boom nightclub on Northern Boulevard and 57th Street in the Woodside neighborhood of Queens.

According to police, The 44-year-old Lieutenant is in critical condition following a shootout with masked gunmen outside the Queens nightclub.

The officer was approached by at least three armed suspects wearing ski-masks as he was leaving the venue who then attempted to rob the off-duty officer of his jewelry, said police.

The off duty officer did return fire striking one suspect in the stomach and chest. The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said police officials.

The lieutenant did sustain multiple gunshots to the torso and head. EMS rushed the wounded off duty 44-year-old officer to Elmhurst Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police officials said a firearm with an extended clip that holds about 30 rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.

Detectives are searching for two other suspects that fled the area involved in the deadly robbery.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
