One Man Dead Following Car Accident With Intoxicated Driver On The Major Deegan Expressway

December 12, 2021 One man has lost his life and another arrested following a horrific two-vehicle accident on the Major Deegan Expressway early Sunday morning in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

According to NYPD officials, a Jeep and an Audi A6, were both traveling southbound when the two vehicles collided as the jeep was merging onto the expressway.

Police from the 40th precinct responded to the collision near East 135 Street and the Third Avenue Bridge, just after 4:45 a.m., where officers on the scene observed an overturned vehicle occupied with one injured unidentified adult male.

The collision caused the Jeep to strike a concrete barricade and fall off the Major Deegan Expressway onto East 135 Street below, landing on its roof, said police.

EMS responded and pronounced the male driver of the jeep dead at the scene.

The 23-year-old male driver of the Audio stayed at the scene of the crash and was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals-Lincoln for evaluation where he was then arrested.

The 23-year-old man has been charged with, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired-alcohol.

The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
