NYC to Open Safe Injection Sites – First in United States

As New York City prepares to open its first supervised injection sites and overdose prevention centers, city officials believe this is the opportunity needed by drug users in order to access addiction treatment and other services under the proper care of medical professionals they didn’t have before.

OnPoint NYC will operate the sanctioned drug use spaces located in East Harlem and Washington Heights, as a collaborative merge of two leading non-profit organizations, New York Harm Reduction Educators and the Washington Heights Corner Project.

“New York City has led the nation’s battle against COVID-19, and the fight to keep our community safe doesn’t stop there,”

said Mayor Bill de Blasio

“After exhaustive study, we know the right path forward to protect the most vulnerable people in our city. And we will not hesitate to take it.”

said Mayor DeBlasio during the announcement of the new sanctioned drug use center.

Local grass roots organizations have fought for years, demanding “Safe Consumption Spaces” as the opiate overdose pandemic swept through United States.

NYC Safe Consumption Space will be the first safe injection site in the United States.
