Infamous Drug Dealer Turned Witness, ‘Alpo’, Dead In Drive By Shooting in Harlem

October 31, 2021, police from the 32nd precinct responded to a male shot at West 147 St. and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

According to police, upon arrival, 55-year-old male Alberto Martinez was observed to have multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

Martinez, better known as Alpo from Harlem, gained infamy in the mid 1980s as one of New York City’s prominent drug dealers.

The male victim was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals – Harlem, where he was pronounced deceased.

In 2015, Martinez, serving a 35-year sentence was being held in a federal supermax prison in Colorado for 14 counts of murder but released after testifying against former associates.

According to authorities, Martinez has been living under a witness protection program since his release.

There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
