Basement Fire Claims life of a 7-year-old, Seriously Injures 54-year-old in Washington Heights

On Saturday, October 30, around 01:30am, a heavy fire broke out inside of 660 West 178 Street, in Washington Heights part of Manhattan.

Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and were able to extinguish a fire inside the basement and 1st floor of the location.

Responding officers observed a 7-year-old male child who was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

A second victim, a 54-year-old female, was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where she is listed in serious condition.

The cause of the fire is to be determined by NYC Fire Marshall. The investigation remains ongoing.
