Alec Baldwin shoots a prop gun, killing DP (Director of photography) and injuring the Director at his movie set in New Mexico, authorities say

Halyna Hutchins the DP was killed and Joel Souza, film director, was injured around 1:50 p.m. Today on a set of “Rust,” a Western filmed in Santa Fe County.
Circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.

Production has been halted for the Western directed by Joel Souza with Alec Baldwin producing and starring in the film.

According to Fox News, spokesperson for Alec Baldwin stated that there was an accident on set that involved a misfire of a prop gun with blanks.

Deputies were investigating how the accident occurred and “what type of projectile was discharged,” the sheriff’s office said press release.

Online Hollywood news site Deadline reported that Actor Jon-Erik Hexum was killed Oct. 18, 1984, on the set when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks.

In 1993, Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee, died after he was shot in the head by a gun firing blanks on the set of The Crow.

Both incidents determined to be accidents.
