New York City Cab Drivers On Hunger Strike

October 20 2021 Taxi drivers and elected officials gathered outside City Hall in Manhattan, New York to announce the beginning of a hunger strike, following a 24/7 month long protest.

Purchasing medallions to operate an independent cab was once considered a dream. Unreasonably high loans overcame drivers with debt and those who bought medallions from the city are now living in a nightmare.

This debt has led some to take their own lives. Cab drivers are calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to provide medallion debt relief.
