16 Year Old Died, 20-year-old in Critical Condition After Alleged Speeding Accident

On Saturday, October 2, 2021 around 1:45am, police responded to a 911 call of a car crash at the northbound New England Thruway in the vicinity of Gun Hill Road in the Bronx.

Police found a 20-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, each with head and body trauma.

EMS responded to the location and transported both aided males to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where the 20-year-old male remains in critical condition and the 16-year-old male succumbed to his injuries on Monday, October 4, 2021, according to police.

Further investigation by the NYPD determined that Honda Accord, operated by the 20-year-old male with the 16-year-old male passenger, was speeding northbound on the New England Thruway, in the right traffic lane, approaching the exit ramp to Gun Hill Road, and abruptly changed lanes , from the right lane into the center travel lane, causing a crash with another Honda Accord in a center lane traffic, according to NYPD.

47-year-old driver of the second vehicle also remained at the scene and was transported, via EMS, to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, in stable condition.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
