Infant is killed, mother in critical condition after being hit by car in Brooklyn.

On Saturday, September 11, 2021 at approximately 6:19pm, police responded to a call of a pedestrians struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Gates Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue, in Brooklyn.



Police say that a preliminary investigation determined that vehicle # 1 2017 Honda Civic was traveling against the flow of traffic, eastbound on Gates Avenue and collided with vehicle #2 a 2020 Honda Civic, driven by a 49-year-old female that was traveling northbound on Vanderbilt Avenue.
A 33-year-old female pedestrian, a 36-year-old male pedestrian and a 3-month old female child in a stroller were struck by the vehicles., according to police.

EMS transported the 3-month-old female to Brooklyn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. EMS transported the 33-year-old female pedestrian to New York – Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she is currently listed in serious condition. EMS transported the 36-year-old male pedestrian to Brooklyn Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

EMS transported the 49-year-old female operator of the 2020 Honda Civic to New York – Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
Police say a 28-year-old male was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.
