Protesters Fight Billion Dollar Brooklyn Pipe Line

August 7 2021 Brooklyn, New York – Environmental justice activists gather in front of National Grid (NG) office building in Brooklyn in protest of expanding 6,200 feet of underground pipeline to move fracked gas through Brooklyn.

Activists encouraged participants to withhold $66 dollars from their monthly gas bill, the price NG is charging each customer to offset expansion costs, in an act of economic protest.

The $1 billion project was rejected by New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation due to concerns it could pollute the New York Harbor.
