Pedestrian Laying in Crosswalk, Struck and Killed in Queens Overnight

July 18 2021 – QUEENS, New York: A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle early on Sunday morning in Queens.

The incident occurred at 2:37am at the corner of Menahan Street and Cypress Avenue, according to the NYPD, upon arriving at the scene officers observed an unconscious 29-year-old man laying face up in the crosswalk. EMS responded and took the victim to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Police say a preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Toyota Sienna was traveling south along Cypress Avenue and stopped at the red light, when it turned green the vehicle made a left turn onto Menahan Street and struck the pedestrian who was lying in the crosswalk already “for unknown reasons.” The 64-year-old driver remained at the scene of the incident. The victim has been identified as Jose Flores-Sanchez from Brooklyn, New York.
