July 7 2021 Manhattan, New York – New York City held a #tickertapeparade today to thank Essential Workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic, honoring their “Hometown Heroes.”
People lined the parade route to watch the floats and thank those marching.
Democratic Candidate for Mayor, Eric Adams spoke to cameras as he marched saying more needs to be done for essential workers.
Republican Candidate, Curtis Sliwa was also seen marching in the parade with a small pack of Guardian Angels.
Several groups marched to protest working conditions, TWU Local 100 chanted as they walked past Mayor Bill de Blasio, “Hazard pay, hazard pay!”
Most groups however cheered, smiled, and said they appreciated being honored for their hard work during the pandemic.
None of the FDNY 9000 firefighters were present at the parade. New York City EMTs and paramedics also boycotted the Hometown Heroes ticker tape parade, demanding better pay.
