Independence Day Protest by BLM757 and Boogaloo Bois in Virginia Beach

July 4 2021 – VIRGINIA BEACH, Va:
The group BLM 757 protested the Virginia Beach Police Department along with the Boogaloo Bois in solidarity on the 100th day since a police-involved shooting that killed several people in the area.

Leader Japharii Jones led protesters along the boardwalk on a busy Independence Day and told the story of the shooting that killed Deshayla Harris and Donovan Lynch and questioned police officers about why the officer involved wasn’t placed on administrative leave, and why one of the shooters was never identified.

The group openly carried sidearms as they walked along the boardwalk and chanted ‘Black Lives Matter’, ‘Free Palestine’ and watched the fireworks.

Earlier in the day, Boogaloo Bois and BLM757 gathered for a a second amendment demonstration on the Independence Day. As the new state law has been enacted, adding more restrictions on open carry in immidiate area of the Capitol Building, the group practiced what they believe is their constitutional right to open carry, by challenging that law.

Two other local statues were also in violation at the time.
As they approached closer to the Capitol Grounds, they were given a print out of the law and told to leave.

The print out read: “Carrying a firearm or explosive material within Capitol Square and the surrounding area, into a building owned or leased by the Commonwealth, etc penalty”. “violation of this section is punishable as a Class 1 Misdemeanor” and any firearm or explosive material is subject to “seizure by a law enforcement officer and forfeited to the Commonwealth and disposed of”.

After a brief confrontation, officials backed away and the group retreated to the “permitted area”.
