Off-duty cop assaulted after interrupting fireworks, fires gun – NYPD

June 30 2021 Brooklyn, New York – According to police, at around9:40pm, an off-duty NYPD officer was driving near Rogers Avenue and Martense Street when he ran over what appeared to be a pile of fireworks and what he says was a group of about 8 to 10 males who were getting ready to light them.



Police said he stopped his car and an argument erruupted between. According to the Off-duty officer, the group began assaulting him and he fired one round from his gun.

Police say no one was hurt by the gun shot and that the group of males ran off.

The officer, who works in Manhattan and lives in Brooklyn, was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Police say several people were taken in for questioning at the scene, police do not believe they are the suspects.
