Two dead after BMW slams into back of truck on Major Deegan Expressway

May 21, 2021, Bronx, New York – just after midnight, police say they responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the south bound Major Deegan Expressway between exit 10 (West 230 Street) and exit 9 (Fordham Road).

When cops arrived, they said they observed a white 2015 BMW M3 sedan having struck the rear of a tractor trailer, operated by a 57-year-old male.

EMS responded the location and pronounced the two occupants of the sedan, male driver and an adult female front seat passenger, dead at the scene.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the BMW sedan was traveling south bound on the Major Deegan Expressway at the incident location, when it struck the rear of the tractor trailer, and became lodged within the rear portion of the truck, said NYPD.

The truck operator remained at the scene and was not injured. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
