Cop Shot in Brooklyn Following a Shootout with Suspected Gang Member

May 12 2021 – BROOKLYN, New York: An NYPD officer was shot in his leg and buttocks at around 11:30pm during a shootout with alleged gang members in Bushwick.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said that the suspect fired into a white SUV hitting 2 of the 3 occupants. One of those occupants was killed and another injured. All three are gang members. 4 blocks away, a sergeant and 2 officers were on patrol in an unmarked car and saw a person “walking briskly.”

When they approached, the suspect turned and fired at them, during the shootout one of the officers was struck three times. He was taken to Kings County Hospital.

One of the officers fired 12 rounds, one fired 9 rounds. The officer who fired 9 rounds was struck. The suspect, a 26 year old male, was was struck once in the leg, the commissioner says he is a known gang member.
