Protesters Shut Down MOMA Museum in NYC

April 30 2021 – MANHATTAN, New York:
A large protest outside of MoMA resulted in the doors being locked and many confused guests.
Security was running through the museum chasing out protesters who had gotten inside through a staff entrance.


One inside the protesters were blocked by security guards and knock over some barricades before leaving.
Outside of the museum, protesters blocked the road, demanding that the museum allow patrons in for free. The protesters are also opposed to the wealthy investors in the museum, pointing to their ties to organizations that are tied to global climate change.
The museum then closed for the rest of the day, employees issued refunds to those waiting outside after the protesters left.

The museum statement said to NYT that two guards were injured by protesters in the fracas. One of the protesters said she was punched by a guard.

The Strike MoMA protest, which is planned to last 10 weeks through June 11. The group is coalition of activist groups that call themselves the International Imagination of Anti-National Anti-Imperialist Feelings.

Strike MOMA goals involve dismantling the museum’s hierarchy, which they say is burnishing the reputations of wealthy donors through art.
