April 22 2021 New York, NY: New York City Mayoral candidate Dianne Morales held a press conference at Barclay’s Center to announce a detailed proposal for a Community First Responders Department (CFRD) as part of her “Defund the Police, Fund the People” platform. The CFRD is a city-wide health and safety response team trained to respond to New Yorkers in crisis with trauma-informed resources and care, according to press releases.
“Millions of New Yorkers are criminalized instead of cared for, and put in life-threatening situations when they most need support. By removing NYPD from these situations, the Morales administration will begin to bring true health and safety to New York City.” said Moralez Press release.
