1 Dead, 2 Hurt in a shooting at Stop & Shop in Long Island, New York

A shooting at a Stop & Shop supermarket in West Hempstead on Long Island Tuesday left a man dead and two others wounded this morning around 11:20am

A suspect was taken into custody few hours after the deadly shooting, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said.

Investigators said they were looking for a person of interest, identified as Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, and 30 years old.

Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, who police say they “believe” to be responsible for the 11:20 a.m. gunfire at a Stop & Shop, was taken into custody around 3 p.m. after a four-hour manhunt, police confirmed online.

Dozens of shoppers were inside the supermarket when shooting occured inside manager’s office. Wilson had worked at the Stop & Shop, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was a current or former employee.

A 49-year-old male who was an employee of the store, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two others were wounded and taken to a hospital.
