February 26 2021 – BROOKLYN, New York: Crowds of people danced and celebrated the Jewish holiday of Purim in the streets of South Williamsburg today.
Purim is a Jewish holiday which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, an Achaemenid Persian Empire official who was planning to kill all the Jews, as recounted in the Book of Esther. Haman was the royal vizier to King Ahasuerus, and he planned to kill all the Jews in the empire.
Around 5:30pm the sirens went off, indicating that sunset is near and the crowds rushed home to observe shabbat.
