Home Attendant Saves Elderly from Fire

February 10 2021 BROOKLYN, New York – At around 12:15 pm FDNY responded to multiple calls regarding a fire on the second floor of 233 Sands st in Fort Green part of Brooklyn. Upon arrival, members from the FDNY confirmed heavy smoke condition and a fire.

An elderly resident, 95-year-old woman, was evacuated by her home attendant, who then called 911.

We spoke to the Home Attendant named Mary and she stated she smelled smoke, she helped evacuate her patient quickly and safely with neighbors and then called 911. She indicated that the hallway area was full of smoke and she had no idea where it was coming from.

Her next-door neighbor named Donna told us she heard something crackling in the walls while she was watching TV , smelled the smoke and also call 911.
