New York City dealt with blizzard conditions as the nor’easter, named Orlena, barreled through the northeast.
In Queens, some snow drifts could be seen as high as three feet deep.
Plows of all sorts, including atvs, removed snow from sidewalks and streets, and at least one resident was hoping for more. “This is nothing,” she remarked.

The region is currently experiencing wind gusts as
high as 45 mph and will receive an estimated total snowfall of 14” to 18” according to the National Weather Service.

This is the snowiest day for New York City in 5 years, after a long snow-less drought. The last time the city saw snowfall of this caliber was during the Obama administration in January of 2016.

The mayor of NYC, Bill de Blasio has declared a state of emergency, prohibiting non-essential vehicles on the road, and canceling outside subway service. MTA bus service has also been canceled as of 2pm. Outdoor dining has also been suspended as snow drifts surround and bury the various pods and structures built into the streets for restaurants to house their guests.
Only time will tell how much snow actually accumulates between now and Tuesday morning, once New Yorkers finally emerge from their homes and venture back out into a long overdue winter wonderland.
