New York City on Lockdown due to Massive Snowstorm

Mayor de Blasio has issued a local state of emergency: All Non-essential travel will be restricted in NYC beginning at 6am. Travel restrictions are said to be in place to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles. Restrictions will be lifted on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6am.

Essential workers who are permitted to travel are:


– Public Transit Workers

– First Responders

– Healthcare/Homecare Workers

– Grocery/Pharmacy Workers

– Food Delivery

– Utility Workers

– News Media

– For-Hire Vehicles

– Those Seeking Medical Care

Heavy snowfall is expected to start tonight, January 31st. Total snow accumulations of 18″ to 24″ are expected, with wind gusts up to 45 mph. Whiteout conditions are possible on Monday.



Late night Metro-North service, all bus service in and out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, NJ Transit rail service will be suspended through Monday.

Vaccine sites will be closed on Monday and appointments rescheduled.

Public school buildings will be closed, City Bikes and outdoor dining is also suspended on Monday.
