November 3 2020 New York City, New York – Board of Elections Coordinator, Charlton D’souza, who has worked for BOE for 16 years, had to take 3 buses and do ‘a lot of walking’ to get to his job site this early morning from Queens Village and to get to the poll site eat 1619 3rd Avenue.
Trip took about 2.5 hours, traveling from 1:30am to 3:57am – “It is a very very long trip and I wish I had a moment to rest” Charlton said.
“In June we used to get free cabs to get to the polling site”, he continued, “now that subway isn’t running between 1am and 5am they also cut a lot of bus routes and eliminated free cabs, so now I am using this 7 day unlimited metro card I have to take 3 buses” , “My employer at BOE, offered me a 20usd voucher for Uber, but the problem is the pricing tonight is 80usd to get from my house in Queens Village” to the polling site.
Overnight subway services are still suspended from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. since it was announced on May 6th, to disinfect stations and trains.
