NBC New York reported that the man has been arrested in the past for minor offenses and could possibly be emotionally disturbed.

About 40 pounds of potassium nitrate were found in boxes inside the house. Police are investigating wether it was intended to be used for explosives.

No actual bomb was found at the scene.
