RECALL: Health officials link US salmonella outbreak to red onions. Four illnesses reported in New York

An outbreak of salmonella linked to red onions is infecting nearly 400 people in more than 30 states. It’s identified a California company Thomson International Inc as the likely source.

Thomson International Inc., has notified the food agency that it will be recalling all varieties of onions that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated red onions because of the risk of cross-contamination.

The recall includes red, white, yellow, and sweet onions from Thomson International.

Salmonella Newport has sickened 396 people, resulting in 60 people in the hospital. There have been no deaths linked to the outbreak. It was first identified on July 10.

Four illnesses have been reported in New York state.
