Black Trans Lives Matter occupies Pier 45

July 31 2020 – MANHATTAN, New York: Hundreds gathered to occupy Pier 45 in Greenwich Village to occupy the space for Black Trans Lives. One attendee, Pierre Coker, said, “This has been a queer space for a long time, it’s symbolic and its important.. It feels more like a family than a protest.” The group hopes to occupy the space for the entire weekend. One demand that the protesters have is for the city to build a statue of Marsha P Johnson, a founder of the LGBTQ movement on Pier 45.
