Fatal Car Crash on the BQE

On Sunday, April 5, 2020 at approximately 11:34pm, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicle along the west bound Brooklyn Queens Expressway at the Queens Boulevard exit (39W), on the exit ramp. Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious and unresponsive 42-year-old male driver, he was the only occupant in a 2005 Honda Accord, within the exit ramp. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the aided male deceased at the scene. EMS also transported the two male occupants of a second vehicle at the location, a 2015 BMW 328i sedan, to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where the 33-year-old operator and 30-year-old front-seat passenger, remain in stable condition with a leg and rib injury, respectively. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that vehicle #1, the Honda Accord had attempted to enter the expressway via the exit ramp at exit 39W, traveling in the wrong direction/counterflow at the location, when he struck vehicle #2, the BMW 328i, as vehicle #2 attempted to exit the expressway along the same exit ramp, traveling in the correct direction. Both vehicles remained at the location after making contact with each other, and the investigation remains ongoing.
