Animal Activists Demand Suspension of All Slaughterhouses due to Coronavirus

(Gabriele Holtermann-Gorden/ FNTV) – New York City: Animal Rights Activist Demand Suspension of All Slaughterhouse Operations due to Coronavirus Outbreak, they kept “Social Distancing” during the event.

Claiming that COVID-19 started in a live animal market, animal rights activists protested outside City Hall in New York City on March 16, 2020, demanding that the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Agriculture Market and State Agency suspend the operation of slaughterhouses indefinitely. Many of those sickened in Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, had visited a live animal market in Wuhan; authorities said there wasn’t evidence of the virus spreading from person to person.

There are about 100 slaughterhouses throughout New York City, and over 50 of them are live animal markets, and all of them operate in densely populated areas killing 20 million animals a year. Many of the slaughterhouses are rarely inspected, and activists fear that they are a breeding ground for viruses like Anthrax, Monkey Pox, the Swine as well as Avian Flu, to name a few. According to the activists, animal feces, blood, urine, and body parts are consistently on sidewalks, and everyone passing through tracks them into their homes, schools, work, and subway setting up a scenario for another pandemic.
